Why Does Handmade Soap Feel Different From Store-Bought Soap?
If you’ve ever used a well-made bar of handmade soap, you may have noticed that it feels a little different from many conventional bars found on store shelves. The lather can feel richer and creamier, each bar has its own handcrafted character, and something as simple as washing your hands or taking a shower can become a small moment of everyday luxury.
So, what makes handmade soap different?
It Starts With the Ingredients
Traditional handmade soap is created by combining carefully selected oils and butters through the soapmaking process.
At Larkspur Lane Soaps & Sundries, our handcrafted soaps are made with a thoughtfully balanced blend of rice bran oil, olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, castor oil, and shea butter.
Together, these ingredients help create the rich, creamy lather and beautiful feel that make a handcrafted bar so enjoyable to use.
Handmade Soap Naturally Contains Glycerin
One of the wonderful characteristics of traditional soapmaking is naturally occurring glycerin.
Glycerin is created during the soapmaking process and is a humectant, meaning it attracts water. In traditionally made handmade soap, that glycerin remains part of the finished bar.
This is one reason people may notice a difference in the way handmade soap feels when compared with some commercially manufactured cleansing bars.
A Rich, Creamy Lather
There’s something especially satisfying about working a handcrafted bar between wet hands and watching it develop into a beautiful, creamy lather.
The combination of oils and shea butter in our recipe helps give Larkspur Lane soaps their characteristic lather and feel.
It's one of those little details you might not think much about—until you experience a beautifully made bar of soap.
Every Bar Is Slightly Unique
One of my favorite things about handmade soap is that no two bars have to look exactly alike.
Small variations in swirls, colors, tops and decorative details are part of the beauty of handcrafted soap. Even bars cut from the same batch may have slight differences.
At Larkspur Lane, our soaps are handcrafted in small batches in South Carolina. Each batch is carefully made, poured, cut and finished by hand.
Those little variations aren't imperfections. They're part of what makes handmade soap special.
Fragrance Makes the Experience Personal
Choosing a handmade soap isn't only about how the bar feels. Scent can make the experience just as enjoyable.
You may prefer something soft and elegant like Cashmere, something familiar and relaxing like Lavender, a bright citrus fragrance, or one of the warm and inviting scents that arrive with the fall and Christmas seasons.
Finding a fragrance you love can turn an ordinary everyday routine into something you genuinely look forward to.
Handmade Soap Makes a Beautiful Everyday Luxury
A beautiful bar of soap doesn't have to be saved for guests or special occasions.
Place one beside the kitchen sink, at the bathroom vanity or in your shower and enjoy it every day.
Sometimes the smallest details make our everyday routines feel a little more special—a creamy lather, a beautiful fragrance and a handcrafted bar made with care.
That's the idea behind Larkspur Lane Soaps & Sundries:
